Spring is known for the time of rebirth and renewal. Many trees are blossoming, and early flowers are pushing through the earth. This time of the year is also associated with the beginning of warmer weather and the month where many crops throughout North America begin their seeding.

With the United States being a market leader in many of the world’s major crops such as corn, soybeans, and wheat todays blog is centered on the solutions required to secure the agricultural products transported across North America and exported around the globe.

The main modes of transport for agricultural products are by bulk truck and railcars. Using wheat as an example, it starts out on a farm where the wheat is harvested and stored locally or transported by a truck to a storage elevator. From the storage elevator the wheat is gravity fed onto a railcar and shipped to port where it is offloaded and then reloaded to another storage elevator, usually by conveyor belts.

The wheat may also be transported to a food processing facility for production of everyday foods we enjoy such as breads, biscuits, crackers, breakfast cereals, pizza, pasta, and pastries. Securing agricultural products requires a robust multi-layered security seal program which employs several different types of solutions to ensure no contamination protecting the food supply chain and to mitigate any company losses.

The most utilized security seals for this procedure requires the combination of high security and/or medium duty cable seals in conjunction with an adjustable plastic security seal. Ez Loc or Flex Secure cable seals are secured at the loading point when the trucks and railcars are fully loaded. The Secure-grip or Tug Tight are secured when the they’re empty to ensure no impurities enter the bulk truck or railcar before reloading.
